What is geotourism?
Geotourism is an extension of ecotourism, based on abiotic nature. It goes beyond highlighting and informing the visitor about the biodiversity and geological features of a natural environment, by focusing on its aesthetic singularities, and fosters the sustainability of the environment. It is a way of learning about the history of the Earth through the place’s geological characteristics.
The main geotourist destinations are geoparks (protected zones with geological heritage of international importance) and urban and natural areas with remarkable geological features.
