Cinema Getxo

Thanks to the close collaboration between the Getxo City Council and the Bilbao Bizkaia Film Commission public service, audiovisual productions are increasingly choosing Bilbao-Bizkaia as locations to promote their projects.
This page brings together the main productions filmed in Getxo, identifying those where the municipality is clearly recognisable and highlighting the real spaces where key scenes were recorded.
Filming in Getxo: when landscape becomes history
Getxo's locations have made it possible to recreate everything from literary tales and historical dramas to psychological thrillers, romantic comedies and large-scale international productions. In some cases, the municipality appears explicitly; in others, its spaces are transformed to bring other places in the world to life.
This journey through Cinema Getxo allows you to discover how the same territory can become many different stages.

Getxo in cinema based on the work of Ramiro Pinilla
The Bastards’ Fig Tree
Shot between 2014 and 2016, 95% of the feature film was recorded in Getxo, making the municipality an essential element of the narrative. The film brings to the screen Ramiro Pinilla's literary universe, deeply linked to local history and identity. Directed by Ana Murugarren, it features actors such as Karra Elejalde.

The Blind Ants
Another adaptation of the author's work, with scenes shot in La Galea, including storm sequences that received wide media coverage. Part of the filming took place on a set in Bilbao, but the landscape of Getxo is key to the storytelling.
The Getxo Tourist Office organises two guided tours a year centred on Ramiro Pinilla and the real settings of his novels.
