The Punta Begoña Galleries are one of the most important buildings from the early 20th century in Biscay and the Basque Country. They are found on the Muelle de Ereaga in Getxo, in a prime location with views over the Bay of Biscay and Ereaga Beach.
The Punta Begoña Galleries were the work of architect, Ricardo Bastida, ordered by business magnate, Horacio Echevarrieta, in 1918. The work was ordered to help stop rockfall in the area. While a three-metre-high stone retaining wall would have been enough, Echevariata decided to use the opportunity to create an iconic building in Getxo, which came to life in 1921.
One of the first private constructions to be made with reinforced concrete
Before the Punta Begoña Galleries were built, Horacio Echeverrieta travelled to the US where he learnt that most of the buildings were made with reinforced concrete. So, he decided that the Punta Begoña Galleries should be built with the same material, even though it was rarely used for building in Biscay at the time. This is one of the aspects that really makes them stand out, as it was so unusual to use such innovative techniques in private constructions.

One century after its construction, this impressive monument has been restored to transform it into a place for creative and leisure activities, exhibitions and training.
