The circular route along Getxo’s coast, which showcases the town’s cultural, historical and natural heritage, is a good way to encourage responsible tourism in the form of bike touring. It is a quick way to explore what Getxo has to offer in an environmentally-friendly, green and healthy way.

Main points of interest along this bike route

You will discover Getxo’s different attractions, including its monuments, coastline and historical spots, along this route.

Bizkaia Transporter Bridge. The route stops along the final stretch of Bilbao’s river estuary, next to what is popularly known as the Hanging Bridge, and declared a UNESCO Heritage Site. You will learn about its history and the reason it received that award.
Basque coast. The route runs along a pleasant path along the shore, when you can enjoy the sea breeze and discover the most iconic buildings of Getxo’s palatial architecture and the regular activities that happen along the municipality’s coastline.
Old Harbour. The next stop on the route is at this picturesque spot with its white cottages and steep narrow streets, and their interesting history. This used to be a small fishing village and it still retains its traditional character today. This is an opportunity to take in the relaxed atmosphere and enjoy a large variety of pintxos (snacks).
Clifftop route. You will then make your way to La Galea, Getxo’s highest point, with panoramic views out over the Bay of Biscay. This area is home to some of Getxo’s most iconic monuments, including the Aixerrota Windmill and La Galea Fort.
