The first paellas’ party was held on 25 July 1956 when three inseparable friends, Damián Ayo, Antonio Bilbao and Félix Yurrebaso, promoted what in a few years would become known as the “Getxo Paellas Competition”.

Nowadays the Itxas Argia society is entrusted with organising this popular event which this year will celebrate its 62nd anniversary.

Over time this celebration was gained in popularity and is has now become one of the events most looked forward to by the people from Getxo. Every year thousands of people some to the fields of Aixerrota to eat paella and enjoy the day in the best way possible.

The repeated presence of groups from other countries, Belgians, Americans, Australians, Japanese and many other nationalities, have made the competition truly INTERNATIONAL in nature.
